SPRING 2011 

The Zeta Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi at Loyola Marymount University holds an annual philanthropy, A-Phi-Asco, to benefit the Alpha Phi Foundation and The Good Shepard Shelter in Los Angeles, CA for battered wives and their children. The National Alpha Phi Foundation is an important funding source of education in womens cardiac health, leadership development and philanthropy. The Foundation dedicates itself to programs which support cardiac care awareness. The Zeta Beta chapter hosts a Heart Health Week on LMU's campus, by learning about how to keep our hearts healthy and sharing these tips with our fellow students. A-Phi-Asco consists of both a silent and live auction, along with raffles, and dinner. Nationally, LMU is one of the top contributing Alpha Phi chapters to the Alpha Phi Foundation, raising over $250,000 in the past 5 years, the most out of any Alpha Phi chapter. Last spring the Alpha Phi's of LMU raised over $56,000, the largest amount yet!

FALL 2010

This year Delta Gamma raised over $13, 500 at Anchor Splash, more than doubling our contributions from any other year! This philanthropy benefits Service for Sight and supports the Blind Children's Center. The event is comprised of a competition that includes synchronized swimming and relay races. In addition to their accomplishments of this philanthropy, Delta Gamma was given the "Community Service and Philanthropic Programming Award" as well.

FALL 2010

Delta Zeta's national philanthropies, supported by both their collegiate and alumnae chapters, are speech and hearing, and The Painted Turtle camp. The LMU chapter of Delta Zeta sponsors a philanthropy called Turtle Tug, which is a massive game of tug of war over pools of green jello! All of the proceeds from the event, which is held every October, go to the Delta Zeta Foundation, which distributes our earnings among the organizations we're partnered with. This year they raised $7,500 from their event!

SPRING 2011

The Epsilon Zeta chapter of Tri Delta does their part to raise money for St. Jude through various philanthropic events. Their annual Almost Golf Tournament takes place once a year and transforms Sunken Gardens and Alumni Mall into a miniature golf course in which students and parents can play a fun and quick game of golf for a good cause. They also offer a raffle in which trips, snowboards, dinners and more are given away! The best dressed golfer of the day wins a prize to reward them for their savvy fashion skills.  The Tri Deltas of LMU were able to raise over $10,000 from their Fall 2007 Almost Golf Tournament and look forward to raising more this year!

Kat-At-Bat is a whiffle ball game with eight people per team.  You pay $10 when you sign up and that covers a free t-shirt and meal with the In-N-Out truck that comes to the event. One hundred percent of the proceeds made from ticket sales goes to Court Appointed Special Advocates (C.A.S.A.). This organization funds volunteers to get training so that they can properly represent foster kids in court; which is part of the process for them to finding a home within the foster care system.  This organization is very important because many children get put into homes that do not have proper background checks and whom neglect and abuse them.  Thus, C.A.S.A. steps in to give them a voice in court so that the children can have a say in their future.  Futhermore, these "special advocates" are more than just representatives, they are also friends and advisors.  They take a primary role in the child's life and provides stability in an ever-changing environment.  Overall, Kat-At-Bat funds the welfare and development of children in the foster-care system. Thanks to all our participants and sponsors last year! We were able to raise $5,000 dollars for C.A.S.A and hope to exceed that goal this year!

Every spring the ladies of the California Nu chapter of Pi Beta Phi put on a community wide volleyball tournament called Arrowspike. As one of the largest philanthropies on the Loyola Marymount campus, Arrowspike earns thousands of dollars to help curve the literacy rate in the United States. Teams of six people are formed and each team has the chance to win the title of Arrowspike Champion as well as special prizes such as I-pod nanos. This year the Pi Phis of LMU raised over $5,000 that went toward buying books and reading materials for inner city children who do not have enough money to buy books for themselves.

Hoop Dreams is a basketball themed event that allows LMU students to play and help a note worthy cause. Beta Theta Pi's annual philanthropy helps raise awareness and money for an organization called the "1 Dream Foundation" that specializes in working with youths in foreign countries to help them realize their dreams. So by fundraising we hope to aid in the dreams of others.

FALL 2010

Pumpkin Smash is all about Brothers Feeding Others, benefiting the North American Food Drive.  The Lambda Chi's of LMU provide games at the event including baby pumpkin pong, pumpkin-put (shotput with a pumpkin), pie eating contests and a Pumpkin pageant. Their annual goal is to raise four tons of non-perishable food items to donate to local food shelters!

Derby days is a week long series of events designed to raise money for the two organizations that Sigma Chi sponsors. These two organizations are the Herbert Darling III Scholarship Fund and the Santa Monica Rape Victims Treatment Center. Through the events the Iota Omega chapter of Sigma Chi puts on, they are able to raise thousands of dollars each year for these two awesome foundations. Events include the Derby Dash, as well as a car wash, live and silent auctions, and a dance to name a few. The complete list and schedule for the week of derby days is on the chapter's website. Anyone can put together a team, and points are given for participation as well as performance at all of the events.

APRIL 15, 2010

Sigma Phi Epsilon will be holding a new philanthropy this spring. The event called, Sigma Phi Epsilon Presents..., will be a talent competition, featuring the talent from various members of the Greek community and the greater university population. There will also be a silent auction during the event. Come out to support a great cause!

Every year, the LMU chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta brings the campus the very popular CPR Awareness week, where students and faculty can receive their CPR certifications for a small donation of $5! The money goes towards a great cause, as one hundred perecent of the proceeds go directly to the Juvenile Research Diabetes Foundation! To show their grattitude for each participant's time and effort, Sigma Lambda Beta orders participants a Chipotle burrito and a free CPR Awareness Week t-shirt!
